About Us
Photo: Amy Stone
Hi, I’m Tara Broyhill!
I am a creative maker, a curious seeker, a recovering architect, an artist, a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend. I am a deep feeler, a connector, a communicator, a coach.
I am all these things and so much more.
The labels we give ourselves and the initials behind our names only tell part of the story of who were are. Sometimes though it’s easy to think we are these labels, forgetting that we have many layers and have the capacity to grow even more. We forget that we are boundless.
When I tell people I’m an artist the first question they ask is “What medium?”. My response is usually vague. Something along the lines of “mixed media”. The truth is the medium doesn’t matter to me. Being creative and exploring ideas is what drives me. I feel more drawn to delving into an idea and exploring it from different vantage points using whatever medium seems most appropriate. The idea of only using one medium is terrifying to me; equivalent to a one word vocabulary or a one color sunset.
I believe everyone is creative - even if you’ve been told since you were young that you couldn’t draw, paint, sing, dance or ____. There’s a creative spark inside each of us that comes out when we let go of all those expectations and labels.
The Many Meanings of In The Making
It’s not about the thing, the product, or the art.
It’s about the creative process of making.
It’s in this process that we find joy.
It’s the joy that helps us let go of expectations and remain curious.
We discover that we are all in the making.
We feel the magic that is In The Making.
Come experience the freedom and joy of creative play!
Opening Prayer
By Gianna Carotenuto
We begin with
The intention to allow
The unknown to appear,
The known to lose ground,
The clearing of body, mind and spirit
For the awakening of creative life force to rise.
To quest for feeling
To invite change
To dwell in peace

A few of my favorite creative things
—Beautiful Oops This interactive book demonstrates how every mistake is an opportunity to make something beautiful. I read it often during camps to remind everyone that mistakes are a good opportunity to let your imagination run wild.
—Abbey Arts One of my favorite venues for intimate performances from very talented creative souls.
—The Ballard Collective A beautiful gathering space for creative souls with lots of events open to the public.
—Push/Pull A wonderful local art supply store hosting a variety of art classes and displaying local art.
—Seattle Recreative A wonderful spot filled with all kinds of supplies for creative endeavors. Everything sold in the stores was donated, keeping it out of the landfill and into the hands of those who want to make stuff.
